Legends of Myoko
Into the Heart of the Apatanis
In the lap of Arunachal Pradesh lies the Ziro Valley, where rolling green hills cradle rice paddies, pine forests, and bamboo houses perched gently on stilts. Here live the Apatani people, an indigenous tribe bound by deep reverence for nature, ancestral wisdom, and intricate rituals that breathe life into their land.

Where misty valleys hold ancient whispers
The Myoko Festival is the soul of this valley, it’s a sacred celebration of friendship, prosperity, and protection. Over days and nights, the valley becomes a living stage of rituals: shamans chanting in trance, ancestral spirits invoked through fire and song, and the entire community moving as one in an unbroken circle of tradition. The elders are keepers of memory, guiding the ceremonies, while the last of the tattooed and pierced Apatani women sit in quiet grace, their faces etched with a history now fading with time.
With Roots of Indigene, you are not just an observer you become a part of the story. You sit in the home of a shaman, listening as chants rise with the smoke; you walk barefoot along narrow trails between paddies; you share rice beer with families as laughter fills bamboo homes. Every step is a lesson, every moment a photograph waiting to be framed, every encounter a bridge to a way of life that still beats raw and real.
This is an invitation to witness Myoko not from the outside but from its very heart. Come before the songs grow quieter, before the last tattooed faces fade into memory.
